Mariam Shera

The Froebel Nursery and Froebel Education Centre

Mariam Shera is the founder and principal of The Froebel Nursery and Froebel Education Centre, both reputable schools in Karachi with rich history spanning over nearly thirty years. She completed her teachers’ training program from the Froebel Institute of Education in London, U.K. and began her teaching career at the Karachi Grammar School.

Ms. Shera has always been interested and involved in educational issues in Pakistan and abroad. She has taken the initiative of setting up a teachers training centre which has been operating successfully for the last four years. She has also served on the boards of the Teachers Resource Centre and The Book Group for a number of years, and recently joined the advisory board of Life Illustrated, a monthly lifestyle magazine. Additionally, she has authored a collection of stories for children.

Safia Shaikh

Bay View Academy

Safia Shaikh is the co-founder, Administrative Director and Principal of Bay View Academy, a leading private school in Karachi, Pakistan. She began her teaching career at the Nasra School before becoming a partner and Principal at the Harib Bin Sultan Montessori, the first Montessori school in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Upon returning to Pakistan, she founded Shaikh’s Montessori which went on to become the leading Montessori school in Karachi and the precursor to Bay View Academy.

Ms. Shaikh completed her Primary Montessori International Diploma from The Pakistan Montessori Training Center and received further training and certification from the HighScope Educational Research Foundation in Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA. She has conducted a number of workshops for the Teacher’s Resource Centre in Karachi, while also serving on its Board. In collaboration with Christine Parker, Ms. Shaikh published Early Childhood Education, a handbook for pre-school teachers. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Early Childhood Education and the SOS Hermann Gmeiner Higher Secondary School.

Sami Mustafa

The C.A.S. School

Sami Mustafa studied Philosophy (BA) & International Relations (MA) at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). He also taught for a year at the UCSB and the State University of New York, where he did graduate work in Political Sociology.

On his return to Pakistan, Mr. Mustafa founded The C.A.S. School in 1981, where he has since been the Principal. In 1988, along with some of his colleagues, he founded the non-profit educational research organization, The Book Group, which has published over 230 titles for children in Urdu, English, Sindhi, Pushto & Seraiki. In collaboration with the Tareen Education Foundation, The Book Group is working on 85 public sector schools in Lodhran (southern Punjab) to raise the standard of these schools at par with some of the best in the private sector. In 2010, Sami founded the Neemtree School of Music where music is taught to two & three year olds. As Director of the Neemtree School of Music, he has successfully demonstrated that music is an integral part of a well-rounded education.

Shahid Shera

Froebel Education Centre

Shahid Shera has over 40 years of experience in the corporate world. He has also been a board member of Froebel Education Centre (Pvt) Limited, Karachi, overseeing its financial affairs from the formative stages.

He holds a Masters degree in Political Science from the University of Punjab, Lahore and a Masters in Business Administration from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi University. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive of Southshore (Pvt) Limited.

Shahpur Jamall

Bay View Academy

Shahpur Jamall is the co-founder, Academic Director and Principal of Bay View Academy, a leading private school located in Karachi, Pakistan. He is also working with Schuitema Associates to develop an educational application for the CARE AND GROWTH™ leadership model which he believes is the critical intervention for schools today. He believes it is the core philosophy of CARE AND GROWTH™ which has enabled Bay View to stand out among schools in Karachi.

Mr. Jamall holds a Masters Degree in Education from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District before moving back to Pakistan 17 years ago.
